Venue: T.M.C. Asser Instituut, R.J. Schimmelpennincklaan 20-22, The Hague

European governments are growing increasingly worried about the approximately 700 Europeans who have travelled to fight in Syria's bloody civil war. The T.M.C. Asser Instituut and ICCT convened a panel discussion featuring Amy-Jane Gielen (A.G. Advies BV), Maajid Nawaz (Quilliam Foundation), Richard Barrett (former Head of the UN Al Qaida/Taliban monitor) and Sergei Boeke (ICCT). ICCT Director Peter Knoope chaired the event. The experts discussed questions including: Why do European youngsters go to Syria to fight? How are they recruited? What is the risk of these Jihadists when they return to Europe and how can this risk be countered?

The panel discussion took place on Friday, 30 August from 14:30 - 16:30 at the T.M.C. Asser Instituut in The Hague. The event was followed by a reception. Please note that the participation fee is € 35 and that spaces are limited.
