ICCT in the Media: ICCT Press Book "Russia and the Far-Right: Insights From Ten European Countries

April 29, 2024

On Monday, 29th of April 2024, Austrian newspaper Der Standard quoted the author Kacper Rekawek, on the recently released book "Russia and the Far-Right: Insights From Ten European Countries."

"In the beginning, there were not many "Putin's sympathizers" who actively sought a connection to Russia. It was rather Moscow that, after the Orange Revolution in Kyiv in 2004, increasingly attempted a balancing act between national conservatism at home and the recruitment of pro-Russian politicians abroad", Rekawek said.

"It is not possible to precisely quantify how much financial effort Russia is willing to invest in dividing Europe. Mangott assumes around 150 to 200 million US dollars annually, which will be financed from the Russian state budget. The funding for “unofficial operations” is likely to be significantly higher", he also added.
