After completing a Master degree in economics at the University of Amsterdam (1984), Gert worked for a research institute and a professional association before joining the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam (AMC) in 1988. At the AMC, Gert held a range of managerial positions in both operations and staff, including divisional director, concern controller and director of strategy. Between 2014 and 2017, he was as project director responsible for the anticipated merger of the science faculties of the two Amsterdam universities. In 2017, he joined the T.M.C. Asser Instituut as managing director and board member. As Asser’s managing director, he oversees the GCTF AU and is a member of the supervisory board of the International Centre for Counter-Terrorism - The Hague.
