Dr James Khalil is a preventing and countering violent extremism (PCVE), deradicalisation and disengagement specialist. He has provided research and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) expertise to programmes funded by the EU, UK, US, UN, and others in locations such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Kenya, Mali, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, South Sudan, and Syria. Between 2015 and 2019 he was responsible for research and M&E at the Serendi rehabilitation centre for former members of al-Shabaab in Mogadishu. He also recently completed research with former members of Boko Haram and al-Shabaab, focusing on their trajectories in and out of violence.
