ICCT Invited by Indonesian House of Representatives

February 19, 2016

Earlier this week, ICCT Research Fellows Dr. Christophe Paulussen and Tanya Mehra were invited by the House of Representatives of Indonesia to join a pre-deliberation talk on the revision of the Indonesian Terrorism Law.

They addressed the importance of balancing the authority of law enforcers to prevent human rights. Tanya Mehra said: “Giving law enforcement more power is not an issue as long as you ensure that human rights are met”. Moreover, Dr. Christophe Paulussen listed mutiple possible solutions used in other countries, such as the Netherlands, to ensure a balance between the power of certain authorities and respect for other aspects.

On 18 February, the Indonesian daily newspaper The Jakarta Post published a news article about this discussion.
