On Saturday, 30th September 2023, Méryl Demuynck was interviewed by the Dutch broadcasting service NOS about the withdrawal of French and Western troops from Mali and its consequences. "The population is tired of the constant conflicts," she said. However, anti-French sentiments are rising in West African countries, and nine coups were committed in the region in three years. Demuynck concluded that the Mali scenario could now repeat in Niger, which was one of the last allies of the West.
