31 March 2021 - Today, we are proud to announce that ICCT is updating its governance structure for a new decade.

What’s Changing: From Project Organisation to Legal Entity

The International Centre for Counter-Terrorism (ICCT) was founded in 2010 as a project-based collaboration between three Dutch institutions: Stichting Nederlands Instituut voor Internationale Betrekkingen 'Clingendael'; the T.M.C. Asser Instituut; and the University of Leiden’s Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA).

From 2010 to 2020, ICCT’s experts worked in this project-based structure to provide policy relevant research, a public platform for knowledge sharing and exchange, and the translation of research into policy and practice.

In 2020, ICCT’s three founding partners jointly decided to establish ICCT as its own legal entity and the new foundation (stichting) was formally incorporated in December 2020. All projects and staff connected with the ICCT brand are transitioning to this new legal entity, in close cooperation with our founding partners and donors.

This enables the newly independent ICCT to join the global CT and P/CVE community as a mature brand with a clear vision and strategy, world-class experts and robust track record of impactful work.

Why We’re Changing

The change of legal status will enable ICCT to better pursue its vision of a safe and secure world free from violent extremism, radicalisation to violence and terrorism, where societies are protected by effective responses to terrorism that are grounded in human rights and the rule of law.

At the same time, the independent ICCT will benefit from an even closer partnership with the T.M.C. Asser Institute and University of Leiden’s Institute of Security and Global Affairs (ISGA), and will continue its cooperation with Clingendael as a preferred partner. As such, ICCT can tap into a deep well of academic knowledge and a broad network of experts to strengthen its work with policymakers and practitioners in the field of CT and P/CVE.

We look forward to continuing our work with new and existing partners around the world in the years to come.

Sincerely,

Alexander von Rosenbach

Interim Director, ICCT
